A lot of people will start having food cravings as they start to develop a healthier way of eating. That usually happens because your body is telling you that something is deficient. In other words, you’re missing something.
Why do you have cravings in the first place and what are the things that people crave?
Do you know anyone who actually craves broccoli?
It shouldn’t be surprising that people tend to crave sweet things. The reason being that sugar activates the opioid receptors in your brain that causes your brain to release “happy hormones.” And since your brain loves sugar, the more sugar you eat the more you will crave sweets.
In order to break this cycle, you have to eat more nutritionally dense whole foods that will eventually crowd out the taste for sweets. However, if simple sugars are still in your diet you’re going to continue to have cravings because sugar activates the brain’s pleasure centers, causing it to release “happy hormones” that will keep you stuck in a food craving cycle.
So if you continue to eat simple processed carbohydrates on a regular basis, it will become more difficult to get rid of food cravings.
Keep in mind that eating processed junk food two to three times per weak is not a treat. It’s a habit. And habits are either taking closer to or away from your goals. In addition, if you’re trying to recover from adverse health conditions you want to develop the habit of eating nutritional dense whole foods.
To break your cravings, I would recommend a six-week nutritional cleanse where you cut out all processed foods and eat one hundred nutritionally dense plant-based whole foods. This will help to reprogram your taste buds.
This is very challenging for some people, but ask yourself, is it worth it?
What is your health worth?
What is your life worth?
Do you want to continue to be trapped in this cycle of weight loss, weight gain?
Do you want to continue to be trapped in the cycle of trying to manage your disease condition?
Why manage your disease condition when you can just get rid of it?
Why manage symptoms when you can get rid of them for good?
You have to develop a way of life and a personal philosophy around eating. Knowing what you eat and what you don’t. Practice this and your cravings will disappear. And the more you practice eating according to your personal plan and stay away from the things that are not on your plan, eventually, it becomes much easier to resist the temptation to eat things just because you see them.
Sometimes when you see certain foods they trigger the brain, which makes your craving stronger. However, over time you become much stronger at resisting those temptations and some of those foods that you used to crave no longer look very appetizing.
By feeding the body nutritionally dense whole foods, you will eventually be able to reprogram your taste buds and break the perpetual cycle of cravings.
